Pearl Harbor and other things ...

Dec. 7th, 2008 | 07:57 am
mood: contemplativecontemplative

So as some of you know I went to Hawaii (Oahu and Hawaii) last month and all I can say is that the trip was amazing! Part of it, Pear Harbor, was overwhelming. One of the thousands of things that struck me while visiting the memorial is how little I know about the happenings in the Pacific Theater during WWII and the attack on Hawaii itself. Anyway, my ignorance aside I'm sharing two of my pictures with you, the first is the entrance to the memorial, the second is oil leaking from the Arizona... almost 67 years after she sunk.

Pictures hereCollapse )

As for the other, basically I'm taking a break from LJ until at least New Years. The reasons are many and varied, but mostly I think I've spent enough time on my HP obsession and it's time to move on to something else. What that is I don't know yet. However I will keep you posted.

As I don't plan on posting again until after the holidays I wish you all a safe and happy holiday season.

Merry Christmas!

Travelling down memory lane

So in my internet ramblings the other night when I was trying to remember song lyrics I came upon a trove of postings from The Muppet Show. Most of you are to young to remember this but this was my absolute favorite ... enjoy.

My second favorite was skit is the one with the animals in the woods singing "For What its worth". My third favorite is the one with the guy playing Witch Doctor on the muppetphone.

The Muppet Movie

Something is seriously wrong with me. It's 12:15AM. I have a long fricken day tomorrow. Yet I can't sleep because I'm trying to remember the words to "Moving Right Along", "It's Not Easy Being Green", and "The Rainbow Connection".

la de dum de dum de dum de dum de dum
la de dum de dum de dum de dum de dum
Why are there so many, songs about rainbows, and what's on the other side?
Rainbows are visions. They're only illusions, and rainbows have nothing to hide.
So we've been told and some choose to belive it. I know they're wrong, wait and see.
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection, the lovers, the dreamers, and me.

Baseball - Part 2

Oct. 20th, 2008 | 07:59 pm
mood: sadsad

So the Red Sox lost. (Sad face) I blame my brother for jinxing them as he said he didn't want them to win this year because he wasn't going to be able to watch them play. Stupid, selfish, brother, ruining it for the Red Sox Nation.

David Price on the flip side did brilliantly as the closer last night for the Rays. It appears that my worry for him from before was misplaced. He has performed strongly for the Rays since being called up in September, and has already earned 2 Saves in the post season. I would like to see him become a regular starter, although the Rays are pretty deep with pitching as it is and maybe he would work better for them in late inning relief or as a closer, they are pretty well covered in those areas as well though.

Red Sox need to add a pitcher, as they are losing the guy in the 4 spot. Even if they resign Wakefield I just can't see using him for more than as a relief pitcher. I'd love to see them sign Sabathia, but no one is expecting them to make a major play for him. Unfortunately they probably need to get a new catcher (love Tek but he's 36 and killing the team offensively) and probably a utility 3rd or 1st baseman who can hit in the clutch.

5 things I have in common with Hermione

5. Brown Hair.
4. Almost all of my close friends are male.
3. You can never research something too much.
2. I'm more worried about getting in trouble than being physically harmed.
1. I have an incredibly difficult time not answering questions, to which I know the answer, even if the questions were not addressed to me.

5 things I don't have in common with Hermione

5. I am not an only child.
4. Normally sized front teeth.
3. My hair is straight.
2. While flying isn't my favorite mode of transportation I have no real problem with it.
1. I'm not the brightest woman of my generation.

So I just came in from mowing my lawn to see I missed a call. Hot and sweaty I listen to the message before popping up to take a shower. The message is from the tenant renting a house my mom owns, which because I live here and she doesn't, I get to take care of, but I digress.  It appears her water is out. I check my water, it is indeed out as well, I check with my neighbor, yup hers is out as well. I call the tenant and tell her that it appears the whole neighborhood is without water. She proceeds to tell me 4 other things that are wrong at the house, three of which have been repaired at least once in the last 3 years.

Now I'm no longer hot but I'm still sweaty, I need to go to walmart, to use the restroom because still no water, and buy a new light fixture. Then I need to go over to the house replace the light fixture, hope that my allergies don't flare up, and pray that nothing else breaks at the blasted place in the next 45 minutes or so. I've already called a repairman for one of the other problems but the other two are a bit more problematic as one is basically being cause by the other and is going to pretty much require replacing at least part of the damn foundation.

I hate the water authority. If I were clean I wouldn't be nearly as annoyed by all of this. Oh and that's why I used that Userpic .. he's my dirty Snape :)

ETA: 5:00 PM  Water is back, time for a nice soak.

I'm done ... again

Oct. 9th, 2008 | 10:36 pm
mood: satisfiedsatisfied

Well, it only took 4 months but Navigating the Perils of Parental Plans is done ... again. This time with a Beta. Nothing changed in the last chapter which sort of surprised me, but the more I read it the more I like the time gaps. I didn't particularly like them the first time around. Anyway, If you haven't read it yet chapter 5 is up at TPP (see my links) and scorpius_rose

A bunch of random thoughts

Oct. 8th, 2008 | 09:10 pm
mood: curiouscurious

I need to remember that when I'm already in a rotten mood reading things that I know is going to piss me off is probably not the best idea. I did this last night, and while the overall repercussions were not the best, it did reinforce a decision I made about a month ago that has been nagging me as being the correct one. No worries though today was much better than yesterday.

I think my infatuation with Tom Felton has finally run it's course, it's been drying up for awhile now but I think I'm ready to put a stake in it. I'm sure it will flare up again briefly once HBP the movie comes out, but for now it's done.

My infatuation with Matt Lewis is going somewhat the same way. He's still a cutey pie don't get me wrong, and I absolutely love how willing he is to embrace the fandom and really put himself out there. He makes my Neville love that much stronger.

I'm viewing this as a good thing seeing that the fact that I'm refocusing my more amorous thoughts onto older actors like Jason Isaacs. On that note ...

Would anyone write Lumione if Bob Hoskins was cast as Lucius?

About as close to political as I'm gonna get

This is usually not the type of thing I post, because honestly I could give a crap about what a bunch of celebs have to say about the subject. But, interestingly enough I have not seen this here on LJ, so if it does influence another than it has done it's job. This really is only applicable to US citizens of voting age.

Le Sigh ...

Sep. 23rd, 2008 | 11:51 pm
mood: sleepysleepy

I'm running out of things to read again.

On the brightish side I found a new fanfic author that I like, Snapes_Goddess. And yes with that moniker she writes Dramione. Actually she writes lots of different couples, including SS/HG, LM/HG, DM/HG, and RL/HG. I particularly like how she writes the Malfoys, some of the lines she puts into Luscius and Draco's mouths have had me laughing out loud, and well you just need to read Narcissa for yourself. I've added her story Something in the Way She Moves (complete) to my rec list.

A couple of criticisms, I don't think she has a beta, so there is the occasional dropped word, saying her when she meant he or vice versa. I didn't see any spelling errors but I'm no judge for that. Her story names are mostly song titles, as well as chapter names, but she doesn't really write song fics. She is something of a music freak so (in what I've read so far) her hero tends to be musically inclined. Which can lead to song lyrics showing up in the middle of a story. She also has a tendency to name songs in the text and then publish the lyrics at the end. I'm not a fan of song fics to begin with, so republishing lyrics in a story or even in the A/N is a bit of a peeve of mine (this does not hold for original lyrics). I tolerate it in her stories as I truly enjoyed the rest of her smutty fluffy bunnies.

ETA: I was a bit premature with the song fic comment, nost are labeled as such though if it ain't your thang.
